Hello Friends,

Here we are into the month of March already; one wonders if there are still 24 hours in a day due to one day finishing and the next beginning in a blink of an eye or is it because we are all programmed to living in the fast lane, not sometimes by choice, but rather by persuasion.

Could you honestly say that you “stop and smell the roses” and actually catch up with a friend in person rather than by face book or sending a text message? When did you last sit with friends and have a real conversation? It seems that socialising is becoming a dying art. Have we all got too comfortable sitting on the couch night after night in front of the television or sitting at the computer exchanging messages on face book or email, or wearing our finger tips to the bone texting?

I personally think it is all very sad how it has come about that interacting with friends or other people has gone by the by. I have been to social events where over 50% have been too engrossed in talking or texting on their mobiles to really get involved in what is going on around them.

Which brings me to the question, we have so many talented (young and mature) people here in Sunraysia that don’t seem to want to get involved in amateur theatre. Is it because of the above observations? Or is it the commitment to rehearsals? Or the style of the productions being offered by the many companies that produce shows year in and year out here in Sunraysia.

Please feel free to express your thoughts, ideas and suggestions on our website

I for one could not imagine my life without the involvement that I enjoy as being part of the Red Cliffs Musical Society’s productions every year. Never would I have made the many acquaintances that I have over these past years and gone on to remain friends with more than half of them. Theatre is not all about having to put your social life on hold for two nights a week nor is it about having to be focused on what is happening whilst at those rehearsals. What it is about is being part of a group that shares a love for performing, being an integral part of a group of people all striving to be the best they can be and having a lot of fun and socialising at the same time. No matter if you are experienced or not you are always welcomed. What you gain is friendships, self confidence and a sense of being involved and contributing to something that you will truly enjoy being part of.

Our society does three productions a year and we try to choose shows that will encourage all people of all ages to become involved. We thrive on having new people come along to be part of our productions even if you are inexperienced there are many that will help you to learn stage craft.

If you would rather be involved in costumes, makeup and hair, set building, front of house, properties or backstage crew, you are still very welcome to come along and join us.

We are currently in rehearsals for our May production of “South Pacific” and we could really do with a few more men to be part of the chorus, so if you would like to be involved or you would like to come along and watch a rehearsal before hand please do so. Just come to a rehearsal and introduce yourself. Our rehearsal nights are Monday and Thursday with a 7.30pm start.

Our Production of ‘South Pacific” is really moving along in rehearsals and we are all looking forward to taking it into the Mercy Theatre. Our show dates are May 12th, 13th & 14th (with a matinee on the 14th), then the following week we are on stage again for 19th, 20th and 21st May. We the cast and crew all hope to see you there.

Cheers,

Pamela
