Red Cliffs Musical Society
Hello Fellow Thespians and Friends of the Society,
Julie and Jan have been somewhat very busy of late and have been unable to organise our Newsletter. So you will have to put up with my “diatribe”.
Jan has moved into a new house, although according to her “the old one was perfect after many years of making it so” I still can’t get my head around why she moved? Julie decided that she needed to have a part replaced “the knee” so it’s on crutches for her, but she will be all better for Chicago! At my age I need a whole replacement of “me” where can I check in to get it done?
We are all feeling very excited about Chicago, great cast, great musicians coming on board under the direction of Luke and his sidekick Nigel, Andy pulling out all stops to give us fabulous stage set with all the “Bells and Whistles” Matthew getting organised to get the necessary props – anyone out there that would like to help in that department let us know via our website. The costumes will be (no doubt) incredible with Jan & Julie in charge.
As we have more time with this show we are just “easily sliding” into rehearsals, those of the cast that have to actually speak words from memory (providing they learn them) have been running lines once a week. By June they will know them! YES?
Monday the 4th June is call back for all the chorus we will start getting into the music and a little choreography, so I guess from there on in we are off and running.
The committee have had to re think some of the ways we have done things for many, many years as it is evident that we have been rather reluctant to evaluate just what our out going cost have been doing to the “bottom line” of our financial situation. The Society has always been very conscious of keeping it all affordable for those wanting to be involved in the Society; however the way we have been supplementing everything has now had to change. The decision was made that as from “Chicago” the membership to be involved in a production is changed it is now payable for only the production you are involved in, the past arrangement was that your membership covered you for 12 months. This arrangement is no longer viable as it was not covering enough of the outgoings associated with each show – insurance payments, light, power, tea, coffee, sugar, milk and other sundry items brought about with rehearsals.
The new fees are- Adult $25.00, Children, Students and Concession card holders $15.00, all orchestra and back stage members $15.00. If you do not pay membership then you are not covered by our Insurance Policy in the case of an injury suffered whilst in the Power House or in the Theatre during rehearsals or the show. If you have your own insurance and do not wish to pay your membership to be covered by our policy, then you will have to produce a copy of same to the committee.
Having said all that, which had to be said we are looking forward to having a great time with “Chicago” and look forward to the up and coming events the “New Theatre Opening,” our “January 2013 production “and “My Fair Lady”, later in 2013” under the direction of Kelly Morrison.
More news next time, until then, stay warm, stay well, be happy!
